Elementary Level Rap

For elementary practitioners or those interested in elementary issues, this session provides an opportunity to come talk to others in the field, get to know each other, find out about the latest K-12 legislation “coming down the pipeline,” and share their latest classroom successes.  This is also a chance for attendees to air their problems to see if anyone has helpful solutions or insights.

Join colleagues in a discussion of issues that affect high school English learners’ entrance into and success at the college/university level. This is an open forum to share perspectives and ideas. Lisa Ireland, a CATESOL Socio-political chair, will be sharing related current and pending legislation.

Join your adult level colleagues for small group discussions related to adult-level issues such as CBET data collection, changes to U.S. citizenship interview questions, goal setting, EL Civics, technology, the multi-level classroom, literacy issues and lots more. The Academic Senate for California community colleges has been working on a project to improve the information that colleges report about ESL and Basic Skills students. Come to get an overview of the rubrics that are being developed. This will be followed by a small group discussion and feedback. Instructors are invited to contribute their input to this vital project, which will assist community colleges in providing accurate information on student success and progress.
